The Anatomical Donation Program

The Anatomical Donation Program at Mercer County Community College (MCCC)

The Anatomical Donation Program at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) exists because of the extraordinary generosity of individuals and families who choose to donate their bodies to science and education. These selfless gifts play a vital role in the education of future Funeral Directors and guide them to help families in their journey through grief.

MCCC’s Funeral Service Education program is accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education for the study and preparation of future Practitioners of Mortuary Science (Funeral Directing and Embalming) in New Jersey.

Donors play a critical role in shaping ethical, knowledgeable funeral service professionals. Their contribution supports instruction grounded in respect, dignity, and real-world practice.

Why Anatomical Donation Is Essential to Funeral Service Education

A thorough understanding of human anatomy is fundamental to funeral service practice. Anatomical donation allows students to:

  • Develop a detailed knowledge of human anatomy
  • Learn embalming and restorative concepts in an educational setting
  • Build technical proficiency and confidence
  • Cultivate professionalism, empathy, and respect for the deceased
  • Understand the responsibility entrusted to funeral service professionals

These experiences cannot be fully replicated through textbooks or simulations alone.
